In today's practical class, we had an assignment that consisted in manually deciphering the sequence of a peptide by its mass spectrometry ... masses. Taking it literally, I took out a pen and a pencil and started doing the math. It was surprisingly easy as only a slight amount of common sense was needed. Surprisingly enough, the rest of the class resorted to complex OpenOffice schemes and took A LOT more time than I did, enabling me to go through all the problems page while they were still playing around with the masses.
In your face, software programmers. Old school style.
